Celebrating 25 years in Abergavenny.
Rosemarys - A 25 year Success Story
In the heart of Monmouthshire lies Abergavenny, and it was here 25 years ago that local girl Rosemary Charles fulfilled her ambition of having her very own shop, having started work many years earlier, straight from school on Cross Street.
With humble beginnings a fashion shop was born at 47 Cross Street, with the goal of providing high quality, high style and excellent service. Rosemary wanted to get away from the run of the mill, dull everyday market quality - and to give the more stylish ladies of Abergavenny a local shop with better quality and highly styled garments.
Right from day 1, the local ladies showed this is what they had been waiting for. From the very first day of opening the doors at 47 Cross Street, Rosemary was busy.
Something was done right
Obviously Rosemary’s vision was a good one, as customer numbers grew and the name of Rosemary’s spread far and wide. Rosemary now has regular customers who return from places as far as Derby, Guildford and Oxford just to enjoy the high levels of personal service at Cross Street.
Ladies were soon coming to Rosemary, who outgrew the original shop quickly and moved up the road to the more prominent 12 Cross Street.
Here, Rosemary is able to offer many more labels, more space, a lounge area for husbands to sit and give approvals, top quality daylight lighting to show true colour and a summer garden for friends to sit with a glass of wine and sit in the sun.
Rosemary works closely with next door neighbour Alison Tod, Abergavenny’s very own couture milliner, known throughout the land for her fine hats. Working with Alison, Rosemary is able to put together beautiful wedding and occasion outfits from her beautiful and classic daywear ranges, with the added benefits that the dresses can be worn again , and not consigned to a garment bag in the loft.
25 years of Excellence
Rosemary now has thousands of happy and loyal customers who return time and time again, to shop at Rosemary’s of Abergavenny.
Some of the labels have changed over the years as fashion does not remain constant, and Rosemary feels it important to stay abreast of the times and the trends.
Over the years Rosemary has remained with everlasting classic brands like Joseph Ribkoff and Frank Lyman, and James Lakeland for their beautiful style and colour, suitable for evenings, weddings or formal occasions. Pause Cafe is another longstanding brand at Rosemarys, so too Lebek.
To reflect the more casual look of cottons and linens, Rosemarys at 12 Cross Street also offers extensive selections of OSKA, Sahara, Naya and Grizas - which are all very popular.
New to us is the exquisite and exclusive Elisa Cavaletti, high style and quality linen.
Trousers are represented by Gardeur, Peruzzi, Toni, FDJ jeans - but without any hesitation at all, the biggest success story of Rosemarys has been Robell trousers. Rosemarys is one of the biggest stockist in Wales, taking up to 2000 pairs at a time. Robell trousers are just a revelation - and what every woman wants.
Marble, Olsen and Lighthouse are yet more brands at Rosemarys.
Rosemary tries her best to have something for everyone, and all labels and brands are direct from the manufacturer on approved appointed accounts, and always current season stock available.
Rosemarys does does not store her old pieces and offer them season after season. No, everything is disposed of in the twice yearly famous Rosemarys Sale.
Rosemary has been careful never to let slip away, her vision of giving the most excellent levels of customer service, and to this day Rosemary and her happy dedicated team of Tracey, Gail and Clare are hard at work giving each and every customer the very best of customer service and individual attention.
No being ignored in this friendly shop - everyone who enters is greeted, and offered assistance to find that pice they are looking for, whilst browsers are left to their own devices, and not pestered.
But for the lady who needs that special look, nothing is too much trouble for the ever helpful girls at Rosemarys, and if you are lucky enough to find that elusive outfit, then it is packed in tissue and put into a bag. Yes remember that - packed and put in a bag. No struggling out of Rosemarys with clothes over your arm.
In these days of High Street decline, and doom and gloom everywhere - it makes a very pleasant and reassuring change to be able to say thank you for the last 25 years, and Rosemary looks forward to a few more yet.
2019 will see Rosemarys expanding to a second shop higher up Cross Street at number 6, in August, and Rosemary looks forward to serving even more ladies who appreciate style, quality and impeccable service. Thank you ALL for your support.
